WEEP NOT FOR ME

Weep Not for Me

When unto eternity I pass—

I pray thee, weep not for me.

Long have I yearned for that fair realm,

Far from this dim and sorrowed sphere;

For though I walked within its dust,

My heart was ever stainless kept,

My love undying, constant still,

My spirit restless, heaven-bound—

For ’twas not here I did belong.

Call thou to mind my gentle smile,

How in the meadow’s tender grace

I lay beneath the gilded sun awhile;

My hope outspread as boundless skies,

My dreams too vast for mortal frame,

My soul unshackled, yearning still—

Forget me not.

Yet let not bitter tears be shed;

Rejoice that I am called at last

Unto that everlasting light.

And weep not for me.
